Thank you Jeff and his co worker for coming out on the weekend to help with loss of power in my garage. My washer wasn't working and that is very important. I also needed a fan fixed and a new fan put up in my kitchen. Jeff and his co worker are amazing and got the job done very quickly. They are professional and gave us very good service. Thank you once again.
Jeff and Nelson came out to do the initial load calculations for a Tesla Charger installation and for removing an unused high amp outlet in the back of our garage. The outlet was removed and after more inspection, the wiring in the junction box was also the wiring routed to our gazebo in our backyard. There was electrical installed 15 years ago for a bar and outdoor kitchen but it was not up to code and at risk of faulting. Jeff and Nelson were able to locate the wiring underground and was able to replace the outlets and remove all unused wire. It was very impressive. I have the Tesla installation scheduled with them in the next few weeks and I am very excited for it. I would recommend them to anyone I know. They work according to code, and made our family feel comfortable and trusting that the work will be done correctly!

With hours, the inspectors boss was at my door and passed everything and promised to take the matter up higher leadership. and Yay! I got the green light form Jeff to officially start using my charger. I did and it worked just fine. Thank you Jeff for your excellent customer service and advocating for your customer all the way through !

Circuit Breaker Repair in Patterson, CA
Circuit breaker repair is a critical service that should only be performed by a licensed electrician. Your panel is the heart of your home’s electrical system, and its breakers are your first line of defense against fire. A circuit breaker is designed to trip and cut power when it detects an overload or a short circuit. If a breaker fails, it can lead to a wire overheating inside your wall. Our repair service begins with a thorough diagnosis to determine the root cause of the problem. We will test the breaker and the circuit it protects. This ensures we are fixing the actual problem.
One of the most common repairs is replacing a weak or faulty breaker. Over time, the internal bimetal strip in a breaker can wear out, especially if it has tripped many times. This causes the breaker to become overly sensitive. It will begin nuisance tripping at a current level far below its actual rating. This is frustrating, as it cuts power for no apparent reason. We will remove the weak breaker and replace it with a new one that is the correct brand and amperage. This simple replacement restores reliable power.
A far more dangerous issue is a breaker that is hot to the touch or shows scorch marks. This is a severe fire hazard that requires immediate professional attention. A hot breaker is almost always caused by a loose connection. This loose connection, either where the wire enters the breaker or where the breaker connects to the bus bar, creates high resistance. This resistance generates intense heat, which can melt the breaker and the panel itself. We will de-energize the circuit, remove the damaged breaker, and inspect the bus bar. We will then install a new breaker, torquing the connections to the proper specification.
Sometimes, the breaker is not the problem at all; it is simply doing its job. If a breaker trips immediately every time you try to reset it, you likely have a short circuit on that line. This is a dangerous condition where a hot wire is touching a neutral or ground wire. Our electricians are expert troubleshooters. We will trace the circuit to find the fault, which could be a faulty appliance, a damaged cord, or a bad outlet. We will perform the necessary electrical repair on the circuit itself. This will stop the breaker from tripping.
We also replace breakers as part of a modern safety upgrade. If your panel has old, standard breakers, we can replace them with AFCI or GFCI breakers. An AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) breaker protects against arcing, which is a leading cause of electrical fires. A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) breaker protects against electric shock, which is critical in wet locations. This is a powerful way to bring an older home up to modern safety standards. We can also install dual-function breakers that provide both types of protection.
Our repair service also includes rectifying improper installations. We often find panels with foreign or alien breakers. This is when a breaker from one brand is forced into a panel of another brand. This creates a poor, arcing connection and is a major fire hazard. We will identify any of these mismatched breakers and replace them with the correct, UL-listed breakers that are designed for your specific panel. This ensures your panel is safe and code-compliant.
Frayer Electric’s electricians are licensed (C-10 #1101008) and insured to work safely in your panel. This is not a DIY task, as working inside an electrical panel can be fatal. Our team arrives with the proper personal protective equipment and diagnostic tools. We follow all safety protocols to protect you and your home. We work efficiently to restore your power safely. Our straightforward quotes mean you will know the price before we begin the repair.

What Makes a Great Circuit Breaker Repair Service
A great circuit breaker repair service is defined by its diagnostic precision, not just parts replacement. A great electrician first determines why the breaker is failing. They will check for a loose connection on the panel’s bus bar. They will use a clamp meter to measure the actual amp draw on the circuit. They will verify that the wire gauge matches the breaker’s amp rating. They will only use the correct, UL-listed breaker for that specific panel brand. This attention to detail ensures they are fixing the root cause of the problem. A great service is safe, code-compliant, and solves the issue permanently.
Most Common Circuit Breaker Repair Questions
A faulty breaker is a serious safety issue that needs professional attention. Understanding why your breaker is tripping is the first step. Here are the most common questions we get about circuit breaker repairs:
A circuit breaker that keeps tripping is doing so for one of three main reasons. The first, and most common, is a simple circuit overload. This happens when you are drawing more electricity than the circuit is designed to handle. For example, running a space heater, a hair dryer, and a vacuum on the same 15-amp circuit will pull more than 15 amps of power. The breaker detects this excess heat and trips to prevent the wiring in your walls from catching fire. This is not a fault; the breaker is doing its job.
The second, more dangerous reason is a short circuit. A short circuit occurs when a hot wire directly touches a neutral wire or a ground wire. This creates a sudden, massive surge of current that the breaker detects instantly. It will trip with a loud snap to prevent this surge from causing a fire. This can be caused by a faulty appliance plug, a damaged cord, or a wiring problem inside an outlet or light fixture. If your breaker trips immediately every time you try to reset it, a short circuit is the likely culprit.
The third reason is that the breaker itself is weak or faulty. Over time and after many trips, the internal components of a breaker can wear out. This can make it overly sensitive. It may start nuisance tripping even when the circuit is not overloaded. This is also a common problem with older breakers. Frayer Electric can diagnose the exact cause. We can determine if you have an overload, a short circuit, or a bad breaker that needs to be replaced.
There are several tell-tale signs that a circuit breaker itself is bad, rather than the circuit it is protecting. The most common sign is nuisance tripping. This is when the breaker trips randomly, even when you have very little or nothing plugged into the circuit. This indicates the breaker’s internal mechanism is worn out and overly sensitive. It is failing long before it reaches its 15- or 20-amp limit.
Another clear sign is a breaker that will not reset. When a breaker trips, you must push it firmly to the OFF position before flipping it back ON. If the handle feels loose, mushy, or will not click back into the ON position, the breaker is broken. This is true even if you have unplugged everything from the circuit. The breaker’s internal spring or switch mechanism has failed.
The most dangerous signs are physical. If a breaker feels hot to the touch, it is a critical warning sign. This indicates a loose connection or an internal fault that is generating high heat. You may also see black or brown scorch marks on the breaker’s casing. Any smell of burning plastic coming from your panel is an emergency. These physical symptoms mean the breaker is a fire hazard and must be replaced immediately by Frayer Electric.
A nuisance trip is an industry term for a circuit breaker tripping for no apparent or obvious reason. You may be sitting in your living room with just a few lights on, and the power suddenly cuts out. This is different from an overload trip, where you know you just plugged in a high-power vacuum cleaner. Nuisance trips are frustrating because they are unpredictable. They are almost always caused by one of two issues.
The first, and most common, cause is a weak, old breaker. The internal components, such as the bimetal strip, have worn out. This makes the breaker hyper-sensitive. It might trip at only 10 amps, even though it is rated for 15 amps. The breaker is faulty and is no longer operating to its correct specification. The only solution for this is to have an electrician replace the weak breaker with a new one.
The second cause is related to modern AFCI (Arc Fault) breakers. These smart breakers are designed to detect arcing in the wiring, which is a fire hazard. However, some older appliances, like a vacuum cleaner or a treadmill, have motors that create harmless arcs as part of their normal operation. This can sometimes fool an AFCI breaker, causing it to trip. This is a nuisance, but the breaker is just trying to be extra-safe. Frayer Electric can help diagnose these issues and find a solution.
No, you must absolutely never do this. This is one of the most dangerous and illegal electrical modifications a person can make. It is a severe fire hazard. A circuit breaker’s size is not arbitrary; it is specifically chosen to protect the wire it is connected to. A 15-amp breaker is paired with 14-gauge wire, and a 20-amp breaker is paired with thicker, 12-gauge wire. The breaker must be the weakest link in the circuit.
If you replace a 15-amp breaker with a 20-amp breaker, you have removed the safety. The 14-gauge wire in your walls is only rated to safely handle 15 amps of current. You are now allowing 20 amps to flow through it. That wire will overheat inside your wall, like a toaster element. This will melt the wire’s insulation and can easily ignite the surrounding wood studs. This is a primary cause of electrical fires.
This is a major violation of the National Electrical Code. It will fail any electrical inspection. If a fire occurs, your homeowner’s insurance will likely deny your claim. The only safe and legal solution for a tripping 15-amp circuit is to manage the load on it. If you need more power, Frayer Electric must run a new, thicker 12-gauge wire and install a new 20-amp circuit.
No, you cannot. This is another very common and dangerous mistake. Every electrical panel (such as Square D, Eaton, Siemens, or GE) is a listed and classified system. This means it has been tested and certified by a laboratory like UL (Underwriters Laboratories) to be safe only when used with the specific breakers designed for it. Breakers from different brands are not interchangeable.
While a foreign or alien breaker may seem to fit or snap-in, the connection it makes with the panel’s bus bar will be improper. This creates a loose connection. This loose connection will arc, generate extreme heat, and can melt the breaker. This will damage the bus bar and can start a fire inside your panel.
Using the wrong brand of breaker immediately voids the UL listing of your entire panel. This will fail an electrical inspection and can void your homeowner’s insurance. Frayer Electric’s licensed electricians are trained to identify your panel’s brand and type. We will only install breakers that are listed and approved for your specific panel. We carry a wide variety of compatible breakers on our trucks to ensure your repair is safe and code-compliant.
If a breaker trips and will not reset, it is almost always doing so for one of two reasons. The first reason is that it is successfully protecting you from a persistent fault. If you have a dead short (a hot wire touching a neutral/ground), the breaker will trip instantly to prevent a fire. As long as that short circuit exists, the breaker is designed to not reset. It is doing its job. You must find and fix the fault first.
To test this, unplug every single item on that circuit. If you unplug everything and the breaker still will not reset, the short circuit is likely in the home’s wiring itself. This requires a professional electrician to troubleshoot. If you unplug everything and the breaker does reset, you can plug your items back in one by one. The one that causes the breaker to trip is the faulty appliance, and it must be repaired or discarded.
The second reason is that the breaker itself has failed. The internal mechanism can break, especially on an old breaker or after a powerful short circuit. The handle may feel mushy or will not click into the OFF position before you try to turn it ON. If you have cleared the circuit of all loads and the breaker will not physically reset, the breaker is bad. Frayer Electric can replace this faulty breaker, restoring power to your circuit.
A tandem or twin breaker is a clever space-saving device. It is a breaker that fits two separate, thin breakers into the space of one normal breaker slot. This allows you to add a new circuit to a panel that is physically full. For example, a 20-circuit panel could be made to hold 40 circuits by using all tandem breakers. These are very common in panels in smaller homes and subpanels where space is a premium.
However, you cannot just put a tandem breaker in any slot. The electrical panel must be designed and listed to accept them. The panel’s label or wiring diagram will clearly state which slots are approved for tandem breakers. Usually, this is only the bottom half of the panel. Forcing a tandem breaker into a slot that is not designed for it will result in a poor connection. This can damage the bus bar.
If your panel is full and you need a new circuit, Frayer Electric can help. We will first check your panel’s label to see if it accepts tandem breakers. If it does, and you have available slots, we can safely install one. If your panel is truly full and does not accept them, the correct solution is to add a subpanel. We can install a small subpanel next to your main one to create the new space you need.
No, a circuit breaker is a sealed, molded safety device that is not designed to be repaired. It is a self-contained unit. The internal components, such as the springs, bimetal strips, and arc-chutes, are calibrated at the factory. Attempting to open a breaker’s casing will break these calibrated components and make it completely unsafe. There are no serviceable parts inside a circuit breaker.
If a breaker is determined to be faulty, weak, or damaged, the only and correct action is replacement. The old breaker must be completely removed and a new, compatible breaker installed in its place. This is a fast and affordable procedure for a licensed electrician. Repairing a breaker is not possible, and any attempt to do so would create an extreme fire and shock hazard.
Frayer Electric will never attempt to repair a faulty breaker. We will diagnose the problem, and if the breaker is bad, we will replace it. We use new, high-quality, UL-listed breakers that are the correct brand for your panel. This ensures your electrical system is protected by a device that is 100% functional, safe, and reliable.
